Kızılkule in Alanya Celebrates 800 Years: A Celebration of Türkiye’s History, Culture and Traditions

Alanya hosted a large-scale celebration marking the 800th anniversary of Kızılkule (the Red Tower), one of the city’s best-known historical landmarks and one of the region’s most important symbols.

The festivities brought together military music, theatrical art and Türkiye’s cultural traditions.

The official programme opened with a ceremonial march by the Mehter Band of the Turkish Ministry of National Defence. The performance of the traditional Ottoman military band created a special historical atmosphere.

Residents and visitors also enjoyed a Concert for Peace and a theatrical performance entitled “The Heroic Epic Tale of the Anatolian Fairy”, presented by the Ankara State Arts Ensemble.

Kızılkule — Alanya’s Historical Heritage

The Red Tower, known in Türkiye as Kızılkule, was built in the 13th century during the reign of Seljuk Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad I.

For eight centuries, the tower has preserved its historical and architectural significance, remaining one of Alanya’s most recognisable landmarks.

Today, Kızılkule is not only an important part of Türkiye’s cultural heritage but also one of the city’s main tourist attractions.

800 Years of History — Part of Modern Alanya

The anniversary of Kızılkule served as a reminder of the city’s rich history, cultural traditions and the importance of its historical heritage to modern-day Alanya.

The Red Tower continues to attract tourists from all over the world and remains one of the symbols that make Alanya recognisable far beyond Türkiye’s borders.
